For fall 2026, that means espresso browns, velvet-textured cat-eye, and tortoiseshell — the looks clients have been booking at Sarang Nails & Beauty in Koreatown all August. Here's what's trending and what each one costs.

Espresso brown is the new black

Brown is the season's real neutral, and it comes in every register: milky caramel, cocoa, and a near-black espresso that reads expensive with everything in your closet. The finishing touch is a glass-smooth top coat — the shine does the work this year. An espresso shellac manicure is $35 and lasts two to three weeks; a classic polish with the same colour is $25 if you like swapping shades weekly.

Velvet nails and warm cat-eye

Chrome isn't gone — it just went warm. Bronze, copper, and pewter finishes are replacing last summer's silver mirror, and magnetic cat-eye gel is the texture everyone's asking for. Held over the curing light, the magnetic particles pull into a soft, velvet-like band that shifts as you move. Cat-eye and chrome each add $15 to a shellac manicure, and they look especially striking in deep plum and oxblood.

Tortoiseshell is the season's most-booked design

Tortoiseshell has been the most-requested autumn nail design in salons for a couple of seasons now, and 2026 is no exception. Amber, warm brown, and gold layered over a sheer nude base — worn as a classic French tip or wall-to-wall. It's a print that reads like a wardrobe staple rather than a statement. Nail art starts at $15 per design, and a full tortoiseshell set on extensions is a favourite on Gel X.

Wine, oxblood, and deep plum

Burgundy's deeper, moodier cousins are taking over: velvet merlot, oxblood, and a plum that's stepping up to challenge burgundy for the crown. These shades hold their depth beautifully on longer extensions — a Gel X full set starts at $70 — and on toes, where a gel pedicure ($35–$70) can easily go four-plus weeks without losing its shine.

One small detail, done well

The loudest trend this fall is restraint. Instead of full-hand designs, clients are asking for a single accent:

• A thin gold line along the free edge
• One matte nail against a glossy set
• A single tortoiseshell accent on a brown or nude base
